The method
How we teach
We don't run a class. We meet the rider where they are and connect the skills they cannot connect alone.
Pirate Skool started as a simple mission: teach people to ride. What grew out of that work is a 1:1 method that happens to be unusually good with fear and extra needs — because those students cannot fake their way through a group drill.
One person, the right bike
We have a mental checklist, and we will change bikes mid-lesson. Smaller first. Pedals later.
Balance is the first job
Training wheels teach the wrong lean. A balance-first setup — often a small bike on a gentle slope — lets the body learn what a bicycle actually is. Then we add the rest.
Connecting the dots
A lot of stuck riders can balance or steer or pedal. They cannot do all three as one action. We treat those as separate competencies and then wire them together. There are about fifteen of those skills.
Two stages of the school
- Get them riding in a quiet, controlled lot.
- Get them into the world — streets, scanning, later trails — when the lot is no longer the hard part.
The special-needs work lives inside that same method. The adaptation is time, quiet, and 1:1 attention — not a different sport.
